Episode 1 Scene 3

Scene 3
Cyrus, Buck, and Hazel are in the Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff – Well folks, I’m not sure what else to say.

Buck – You could say we’re innocent.

Sheriff – Oh?

Cyrus – Yeah. Why, none of the stuff these men say about us is true!

Man 1 – What part do you not understand? Last night, all the horses from old Tom’s place up north were stolen by three people. Tom said that these people rode two duns and a paint. They rode down towards a small ranch, where we found them. These people claimed that the three same horses were theirs.

Man 2 – More than that, the ranch that we found them this morning has been empty for the last month. Nobody was seen there until today.

Cyrus – Sheriff, you know us. We own the ranch that they’re talking about. We just haven’t been there for awhile because we were on a cattle drive with all our stock.

Hazel – And I only arrived yesterday with my sisters. We’re new to this territory.

Sheriff – Likely story. More like you left the ranch, got mixed up in bad company, stole the horses, and then came back to the ranch as a cover-up.

Cyrus – But we…

Sheriff – Don’t try to make excuses, it won’t work.

Cyrus - …But it’s just plain to me that…

Man 1 - …He just don’t want to admit that he’s guilty!

Chaos erupts. The Sheriff bangs his pistol on the table.

Sheriff – Enough! You three are guilty as charged. Horse-stealing is punishable by death. Your hanging will be tomorrow.
