Scene 5
Cyrus, Buck, and Hazel are sitting back in the cellar, but this time they are completely tied up and can’t move.
Hazel – Well it wasn’t such a bad idea.
Cyrus – We’ll add it to the list.
Hazel – List?
Buck – A mental recording of all the stunts we’ve done over the years.
Hazel – Ah.
Buck – My all-time favorite was that one that we pulled in Oklahoma.
Cyrus – Yeah.
Hazel – Well how’d it go?
Cyrus – We were riding through, having just returned from visiting some relatives out east. It was growing dusk, and we stumbled upon a whole mess of outlaws.
Buck – Now, with there being so many of them and only two of us, we was much afeared for our very lives.
Cyrus – From what we could tell about these men, they looked like the kind that would like a good laugh.
Buck – So, we kind of thinks up a basic plan, and then start a-going straight to the middle of the camp. Cyrus starts a-swaying in the saddle, as if he’s just drunk hisself plumb full of whiskey.
Cyrus – Meanwhile, Buck rides after me and grabs the reins, as if he’s my over-protective friend who’s trying to keep me safe, but is a bit tipsy himself.
Buck – Those outlaws rode right up, stuck guns in our faces, and told us to drop our own. I replied, ‘What, these guns? Shucks, they aint real, just for show business.’ And to prove my point, I shot straight at Cyrus, but took care to miss him. Cyrus, however, falls straight out of the saddle onto the ground.
Cyrus – Buck jumps off his horse, screaming, ‘Just an act! Just an act! Don’t you all worry none!’
Buck – Cyrus sits right up, shakes his eyes open, and says, ‘We…gotta finderm us a new act, Joe…This…whump! deal…shooken my head turrible.’
Cyrus – There was some truth in it, but all those outlaws loved the act. When they took us to their boss, we told ‘em that we were part of a traveling show, but had gotten separated a couple miles back. We asked them for directions to the next town.
Buck – They gave us some vague directions, and then told us to be off. I offered to try the fake-shooting act with someone else, but they just sent us a-hurrying on our way.
Hazel – That was mighty quick thinking. It’s just too bad it won’t work now.
Cyrus – Yeah. I guess we just better wait now, and see what happens.
Back at the ranch…
Patch Slogun and Crane Whitley ride up to the house.
Patch – You’re sure this is the place?
Crane – This is where they said they’d meet us.
Morgan runs out.
Morgan – Please sir, can you help us?
Patch – What do you need?
Morgan – Some men came in from town and arrested Cyrus, Buck, and Hazel!
Patch – On what charges?
Morgan – Horse stealing.
Patch – You don’t say.
Morgan – Yeah, and we’re new to this place, so we don’t know where to find the Sheriff. Otherwise, we’d go and try to get them out.
Patch – Well, miss, I think I might be able to help.
Morgan – Oh, really? That would be real nice.
Patch – Well I’ll ride over there and see what I can do.
Morgan – Thanks so much.
Patch – No problem. So long.
Patch and Crane ride off.

Should there be a flashback during the story? I think it would add to the scene, but it would take a lot of extra work.
